A TIME FOR GRACE What starts off as a very entertaining and authentic "change of life" tale about the aging protagonist, Grace, seamlessly develops into an international murder mystery. Hard to do, but nicely accomplished by author WainDecker. The European setting and character development has the essence of Peter Mayle (A Year in Provence), which is high praise indeed. TICK TOCK is the sequel - brilliant ! TWISTED LIVES WICKED LIES Loved this book! It was beautifully written and so interesting with all its twists and turns, surprises and secrets in the present and from the past. Finding a journal and being able to delve into someone else's life is such an escape from our own. We all can relate to the complexities of personal relationships but to be able to get into someone's head via their journal makes it even more interesting especially when the past and present intertwine! THE MAN FROM YORKSHIRE This is an intriguing book! There's certainly an element of mystery: Was Eric murdered or did he die of natural causes? Was he involved in nefarious international dealings or was he just a regular guy? Perhaps most interesting is the historical context which the author weaves into her story. She has well researched the history of the time and you are likely to find yourself on the Internet looking for more information about current events of the period. Fascinating! I found the ending a bit ambiguous, but then realized it didn't matter because I think the book is really about the never-ending and changing interrelationship of lives and events. A good read! THE OCCUPATIONAL TOURIST Wonderfully interesting read about a man, his family and his family of the heart! It weaves back and forth in time as the main character reviews his life sharing with the reader the great and tragic times in his life; the people who made a difference in his life and how he made a difference in the world. SIMPLY ROSE What a fantastic read! I absolutely loved this book. I love how it starts off. I wondered what kind of story Harry was going to get out of Rose. She’s so unassuming. An elderly lady living alone on an island in the Adriatic. Then all of a sudden, you hit the reader between the eyes. I kept seeing Dame Judi Dench in the role of Rose—lol. Your blurb captured your story perfectly; it really is a deliciously psychotic read. It was so much fun to read—I devoured it in one sitting. You have a gift for taking something extraordinary, like Rose’s career, and putting it into the everyday without losing any of the horror of what she does. She doesn’t see killing as murder. It’s just something she needs to do. Yet as horrific as that is, it works in your story. That’s a fine line to walk, and you do it without the reader losing any respect for Rose. That’s terrific writing. PABLO HASEN-PFEFFER is a charming story. It carries just a hint of magical realism and has the effect of a morality play in its use of symbolism. In some ways, it reminds me of the stories in the collection entitled, Strange News from Another Star by Herman Hesse. Using the pepper tree as the narrator is a refreshing twist. The characters are likeable, especially Celeste, who represents a kind of earth mother. I also enjoyed the information conveyed about the history of South America. This story is charming, and it deserves a large audience. I can see it as a film, too… dark and light aspects of life. and sO much mOre…… as a creative writer weaving International mystery crimes into a contemporary gothic erotica ~

Where do I get the ideas from? Well - It could be from a newspaper clipping, or something I see, perhaps a name that sparks an image or an idea or a pre-formed idea that simply needs writing. Names quite often pop into my head - I make a list of them so I can transcribe them later, look and perhaps watch them hatch into characters with their stories yet to unfold.
The book cover is crucial to the tone of the book and I usually start with that . I create all jackets and promos myself (graphic design background) and then once I have my visual I can start.
WRITERS are SPONGES
I like to think I soak up everything I hear, see, experience or that which lies dormant in my own psyche. Sometimes it’s dark, very dark and at other times light.
COMMON THREADS
Hope, always Hope, and a sense of balance/justice perhaps or better Justification, Humor, great characters, good story telling, a History of the settings and time frame (both in political and geographical context), Entertaining and hopefully thought-provoking in ways.
METHODS
Every writer has a method to their madness - some use cards and put them up making a story board. I always start with a TIMELINE, CHARACTER NAMES, BOOK COVER, and a story that has a beginning, middle and an end. Writing, for me, is a process of exploration with guide lines and an end goal but quite often the characters take on a life of 'their own' and dictate a change of pathway. I go with the flow if it is justifiable and rethink ~ as NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN STONE unless written IN stone ! a creative writer writing mystery crimes in a contemporary gothic age ~
Do I ever get writer’s block? Well, frankly I’m not sure what that means exactly . I think and then I write and then take time away to mull the words, the story and the characters to see and hear if they ring true (in my mind’s eyes) and then I write some more.
I usually write two books at the same time as the flow can shift and for me it is good to let my mind shift. I write every day, whether it is physically ON the computer or by pen OR whether it is in my head, running the scenes over and over editing as I go, seeing what works and what doesn’t or where it would better be directed. Writing is not simply applying fingers to the paper, as it were; it is an internal process. Each book takes about one year from beginning to end and then there are those that start off with a bang only to simper and stew over time before they are picked up again (but even in that ‘down time’ they are being worked on, re-read and re-configured over and over again).
WORDS are like Music - they activate a visual sense in a different way than does a piece of art. Art is already visual and it can only bring up an emotional response through colour, form and touch. One either loves it or hates it.
BUT the WORD itself
can transform not only an emotional response ~ it can DEMAND a physical action; it can take the reader to places never gone to within their own reality; give a visual context/ a picture to something written down on paper; can entice a savoury mouthwatering experience or a titillating sexual urge; one can almost feel the wind in one's hair; the touch on the skin. And so it is with music - these are MIND PLATFORMS upon which one can expand one's horizon through reading / hearing the word spoken/ being swept up with the strings and tooting flutes... creative writer writing life's mystery crimes in a contemporary gothic frame time ~
.
It had been 20+ years since i had been back home to Montreal, Canada ~ while chatting, a childhood friend reminded me that I had written a story which had won a prize - I looked at her in surprise. TIMOTHY TURTLE she replied. I smiled remembering ~ I had entered a writing contest which was held across all of the Commonwealth and had won / dinner with the Consulate General at the Ritz Carlton Hotel and a cash prize. The piece was about Timothy Turtle who swam the St. Lawrence Seaway. I thought how extraordinary that she would have remembered something from such a long time ago - I had written it when i was 8-9 years old - At the time of her comment I was in my 60's. I am now in my 70's. She recounted the tale as if having just read it the day before.
And so there IS power in the word / in the thought / in the story ~
My father, Eric James Wain, used to contribute articles and commentaries (political and social) to the Montreal Gazette. He started me off keeping a journal, a logue ~
